ARA Luxury Fashion / Q3 2026 / Full Shelf Diagnostic
Every luxury house we track gets named by the machines — the contest is no longer about being seen, it is about who gets said first, and Chanel is winning that on breadth.
Why these three lead the shelf
1. Chanelchosen 36× / 11.3% / 4/4 models
Chanel appears in 11 of the 15 buyer questions, all four models name it, and it reaches first place. No house holds more places on the shelf. Its lead is breadth. It comes first in 11 of its 60 recommendation moments, four fewer than Hermès.
2. Hermèschosen 28× / 8.8% / 4/4 models
Hermès matches Chanel's reach, with 11 of the 15 questions and all four models, and holds eight fewer places. It turns presence into the first answer more often than any other house, coming first in 15 of its 60 recommendation moments.
3. Louis Vuittonchosen 28× / 8.8% / 4/4 models
Louis Vuitton holds the same 28 places as Hermès from fewer questions, 9 of the 15, and all four models name it. It comes first in 5 of its 60 recommendation moments, a third of Hermès' count.
About the AI Shelf
The AI Shelf is the short list of names an AI assistant gives when someone asks what to buy. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity answer the questions a real buyer asks, and every brand they name lands on the shelf. Your customer sees it before they see yours, and nobody can pay for position on it.
Each time a model chooses a brand over every other brand it could have named, that counts once. 318 choices were made here. Slice size is share of all of them.

The takeaway
The shelf has a heavy head and a long, thin tail: three houses take almost a third of every place, while the 34% sitting outside the tracked set is split across nearly sixty names, none of which holds even 2%. That means there is no single challenger to defend against — the leakage is diffuse, and it clusters in specialist lanes (quiet luxury, tailoring, avant-garde) where a heritage house is not yet the reflex answer. Growth here comes from converting the questions you already appear in into first-named answers, not from fighting for visibility you already have.
